My Favorite Highway
”Bigger Than Love”

“If there’s a hole in your heart, you gotta pull it together. It takes the courage to start but now is better than never. It takes a push and a shove. Somehow it’s never enough, and it’s alarming how quickly we forget that nothing’s bigger than love.”

There are times when we go through things and we feel completely alone. Sometimes we feel broken, as if there is no way out. We feel as if no one in the world could ever relate to the pain we’re feeling, as if we’re completely alone in the struggles that we face. And then a song comes on, and everything that we’re feeling is poured through our headphones. “Bigger Than Love” is that song for me.

Something I’ve learned in the past couple of years from of my own struggles and TWLOHA is that we all have stories behind our smiles and behind the strong exteriors that we can exude. The first lyrics of this song remind me of that. “We’ve all got scars as big as ours, a token for the pain we hide inside of us.” The song goes on to say that “nobody here is perfectly fine” and those words are so powerfully true. I think sometimes we forget that everyone feels pain, and that people struggle beyond what you may see. But this song allows us to remember that nothing is bigger than love, and that’s what we need in these times where our stories are heavy, that love and hope can help us through the situations that we face.

As you live this life with people, you learn that everyone deals with things differently. We all are subject to pain, but that doesn’t mean we all process it the same way. The reality of life is that we’re all different. However, the beauty of life is that we get to experience those differences when we live together. I’ve always said that there are three things that surpass all boundaries: music, pain and love. We all experience pain, but we all have the ability to love and, also, to accept love, and, sometimes, that’s the hardest part of it all.

I discovered this song a couple years ago, and since then, it’s been a constant favorite to inspire hope, not only myself but also in others. This song helps me when times are hard, and I hope that it helps you as well. Life is tricky, but it’s so beautiful; there are hard times and there are precious moments that make life so worth living. I know that in those hard times we can forget those moments and we can fail to acknowledge the beauty of the life we’ve been given, but I hope that this song reminds you that love is such an invaluable and everlasting thing to give and be given.

Learn to love yourself as well as love others, and remember that nothing is bigger than that love.
